Idukki District Under Red Alert, Tourism Activities Restricted

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a red alert for Idukki district for Sunday and Monday due to heavy rainfall. As a precautionary measure, the district administration has instructed the District Tourism Promotion Council (DTPC) and Tourism Department to curb tourism activities. Kolukkumalai jeep safari has been suspended for the specified period. Other attractions like the Cantilever Glass Bridge at Wagamon and DTPC-operated boating services may also be halted if adverse weather conditions persist. The district administration has also banned mining and quarrying activities and established control rooms across the district. To ensure public safety, individuals may be relocated to safer areas in case of emergencies.

Mysuru district authorities are determined to increase voter turnout in the second phase of the Lok Sabha elections, scheduled for April 26. After a decline in voter turnout during the first phase, officials have devised a strategy to restrict access to popular tourist spots like Mysuru Zoo and Mysuru Palace to discourage non-essential visits. This is to encourage locals to prioritize their civic duty and cast their votes.
