The congressman also slammed the MTA for failing to respond to a freedom-of-information request for the data behind the toll calculation.

Footpath Encroachments Hamper Pedestrian Safety in Tiruchi

Despite efforts, footpaths in Tiruchi remain encroached upon by commercial establishments and eateries, posing safety hazards for pedestrians. Encroachments are rampant along major roads, including Thanjavur Road, Puthur High Road, and West Boulevard Road, with establishments, vendors, and two-wheelers occupying the designated walking spaces. Under the Smart Cities Mission, the Corporation launched a smart pedestrian platform project, but most footpaths continue to be encroached upon, negating their intended purpose. Road users complain of reduced road space and traffic congestion due to unauthorized parking on encroached footpaths. The civic body has initiated a survey to identify encroachments and plans to issue notices to property owners and seek police support for an eviction drive.
