Five individuals, including a child, tragically lost their lives while attempting to cross the English Channel from France to the UK. This incident comes amidst the UK government’s approval of a contentious bill authorizing the deportation of illegal immigrants to Rwanda. French authorities reported spotting overcrowded boats carrying migrants off the coast of Pas-de-Calais early Tuesday morning. Despite the intervention of French navy ships, five fatalities were confirmed, including a woman, three men, and a 7-year-old girl. The boat involved reportedly carried 112 individuals and set sail from the beach in Wimereux. The incident highlights the perilous challenges faced by migrants attempting to cross the English Channel, with an estimated 30,000 individuals making the crossing in 2023 alone.
