Bangladesh Court Acquits Ex-Minister in Gun-Running Case, Exposing Post-Revolution Tensions with India

A Bangladesh court acquitted ex-minister Lutfuzzaman Babar and others of gun-running charges, claiming insufficient evidence. The case, dating back to 2004, involved weapons allegedly destined for Indian rebels. The acquittal follows the August revolution that ousted Sheikh Hasina’s government, further straining relations with India. The court also reduced the death sentence of fugitive rebel commander Paresh Baruah.
