Glasgow Father’s Final Farewell: Taken to Funeral in Son’s Coach

Joe McCrystal, an 88-year-old father from Glasgow, was laid to rest in a unique way: a coach owned by his son, David, served as his hearse. The unusual request was part of an ongoing joke between father and son. Joe had spent his retirement years at David’s coach yard, where the idea of using a coach for his funeral originated. Supported by his family’s business, Joe found joy in assisting at the yard. When Joe passed away, his family honored his final wish by arranging for a specially modified coach to carry his coffin. The hearse, fitted with straps to secure the coffin, became a testament to the bond between father and son. Karen O’Neill, Joe’s granddaughter-in-law and a funeral arranger, ensured that the funeral arrangements were carried out flawlessly. The unique hearse brought smiles and laughter to the mourners, capturing the essence of Joe’s spirit.
