Parkinson’s Picnic Raises Funds, Awareness in Calgary

Family, friends, and researchers gathered on St Patrick’s Island for a fundraising and awareness picnic dedicated to Parkinson’s Disease. The event, hosted by the Calgary Parkinson’s Research Initiative at the University of Calgary, featured face painting, live music, and games, with the goal of raising funds and supporting research into new treatments and therapies for the neurological disorder.

University of Calgary Encampment Led to Police Response

On May 9, a protest encampment was established at the University of Calgary in support of the Palestinian-led Boycott, Divestment, and Sanctions (BDS) movement. Campus security called police in response, and officers attempted to negotiate with protesters before dispersing the encampment using pepper balls and OC grenades. Four arrests were made, and no charges were laid. The students’ union is calling for an independent investigation into the police response and the university’s decision-making.

Pro-Palestinian Encampment Established at University of Calgary, Joining Nationwide Protests

A student-led pro-Palestinian encampment was established at the University of Calgary on Thursday, joining dozens of similar protests on campuses across Canada and the United States. The Calgary Student Movement, which is leading the encampment, is demanding that the university divest from all corporations involved in the conflict between Israel and Hamas, and condemn Israel’s actions towards Palestinians.
