Marcel Hirscher, the eight-time overall World Cup champion, is returning to competitive skiing after a five-year retirement. The Austrian-born skier will race for the Netherlands, his mother’s country, instead of his native Austria. The move allows Hirscher to compete on Van Deer skis, the brand he co-founded with Red Bull, which is not approved by the Austrian federation. Hirscher aims to compete in both slalom and giant slalom and has his sights set on the upcoming World Championships in Austria.
