Viking River Cruises has launched two new river vessels, the Viking Hathor and Viking Sobek, in a grand ceremony in Luxor, Egypt. These sister ships, identical to the Viking Aton and Viking Osiris, are purpose-built for navigating the Nile River and offer cutting-edge designs for Viking’s celebrated 12-day Pharaohs & Pyramids itinerary. The naming ceremony featured a performance by renowned soprano Sissel Kyrkjebø, and the godfathers of the vessels are Edward Herbert, descendant of the Earl of Carnarvon who discovered King Tutankhamun’s tomb, and Mohamed El Banna, founder of Cosmos Egypt. The expansion of Viking’s fleet signifies the company’s commitment to providing unparalleled Nile River cruising experiences and further enhancing its offerings with unique insights into ancient Egypt.
