EPCOR, Edmonton’s water utility provider, has noticed a significant increase in water usage and spikes during playoff intermissions. During the Kings series, there was a spike of 40 megalitres and during the Canucks series, the spike doubled to 80 megalitres. In the most recent game, the spike reached 120 megalitres during the first and second overtime periods.

Southwick is set to begin construction on a splash pad at Whalley Park, but the cost to operate the facility remains unknown. The pad will use 63 gallons of water per minute when in operation, according to the supplier. Officials are unsure of the exact water usage and associated costs.
