After a thorough investigation, the Sydney Rugby Union’s code of conduct committee has absolved Eastern Suburbs of any direct involvement in the racial abuse allegations leveled against them during a pre-season match against West Harbour. However, the committee acknowledged that racial abuse did occur and instructed Eastern Suburbs to implement enhanced fan education and supervision measures. Despite finding credible evidence of the abuse, the committee was unable to conclusively determine the source of the offensive language, leading to Eastern Suburbs’ acquittal. The club has been ordered to take proactive steps to prevent such incidents in the future, while West Harbour retains the right to appeal the decision.
