The Irish Cultural Center of Western New England has been awarded a $100,000 grant from the Irene E. and George A. Davis Foundation to support the creation of a Community Performance Center at its Morgan Road facility. The center will serve as a hub for concerts, events, meetings, and private functions, hosting local, regional, national, and international performance groups. The space will be able to accommodate major Irish cultural groups, such as Dublin’s Abbey Theatre, as well as regional performers of all ages. The grant will help complete the performance center, which is part of the center’s $2 million Capstone Campaign.

On Monday, April 22nd, the Wahconah boys lacrosse team emerged victorious in a thrilling 8-7 nail-biter against Agawam. In other high school lacrosse action, Longmeadow defeated West Springfield 13-6, Belchertown dominated Smith Voc. 18-3, Amherst crushed Granby 12-2, and East Longmeadow overpowered Pope Francis 17-4.
During a meeting with state transportation officials, Congressman Richard Neal declared that establishing an east-west passenger rail line is the region’s top economic development priority. This initiative aims to connect western and central Massachusetts to Boston without the traffic congestion of the Massachusetts Turnpike. The project includes track improvements and the construction of a park-and-ride station in Palmer.
