Withers’ true nature has been a subject of speculation in Baldur’s Gate 3. Theories suggest that he is actually Jergal, a deity formerly known as the Lord of the End of Everything. Despite giving up much of his divine power to other gods, Withers retains the ability to cast potent resurrection spells and create hirelings. His unusual request for a paltry sum of gold may be a way to circumvent Ao’s rules, which prohibit gods from directly interfering with mortals. Withers establishes a divine pact with the player character, using their desire to resurrect the dead as a justification for offering his services.
