A’s Second Baseman Zack Gelof Out with Oblique Strain

Oakland Athletics second baseman Zack Gelof has been diagnosed with a left oblique strain and is expected to miss significant time. The injury occurred on Tuesday, as soreness led the team to scratch him from the lineup for testing. Gelof, who was the A’s best player as a rookie last season, had a slow start to 2023, batting .196/.260/.337 with 33 strikeouts in 101 plate appearances.

Gelof’s Homer Helps Athletics Snap Losing Streak at Yankee Stadium

Zack Gelof’s two-run home run in the ninth inning lifted the Oakland Athletics to a 2-0 victory over the New York Yankees on Monday. The win snapped Oakland’s eight-game losing streak at Yankee Stadium. JP Sears, acquired from the Yankees in 2022, limited his former team to three singles in six innings. Yankees starter Carlos Rodon also pitched seven innings, allowing only one hit. The game was marked by the bizarre early ejection of Yankees manager Aaron Boone by plate umpire Hunter Wendelstedt.
