England’s Test Selection Raises Questions About Batting Depth and Future of Crawley, Pope

England’s upcoming Test series against New Zealand has sparked debate about the team’s batting depth and the future of key players like Zak Crawley and Ollie Pope. While the team has opted for a young all-rounder in Jacob Bethell, former England captain Nasser Hussain believes the door is open for other batters to stake their claim, putting pressure on Crawley and Pope to maintain their places. The selection of Bethell has also raised questions about the overall talent pool in England’s first-class cricket.

England Loses Opening Batsman Crawley for Sri Lanka Test Series

England will be without opening batter Zak Crawley for the upcoming three-match test series against Sri Lanka due to a fractured right little finger. Crawley sustained the injury during the third test against the West Indies last month. The England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) announced a 14-member squad for the series, which includes a first call-up for middle-order batter Jordan Cox. Seamer Olly Stone also returns to the test squad after a long absence.
