Taiwan Hit by Another Earthquake, Magnitude 4.0

On Thursday at 15:51 pm local time, an earthquake with a magnitude of 4.0 on the Richter scale struck Taiwan. The Central Weather Administration (CWA) reported that the epicenter of the quake was located 10.2 kilometers south-southwest of Taitung County Hall, with a shallow focal depth of 26.8 km. This event follows a previous earthquake of magnitude 6.1 that hit the island on April 23, with its epicenter located at Latitude 23.69 and Longitude 121.85, at a depth of 87 kilometers, as recorded by the National Centre for Seismology (NCS).

In response to these seismic events, the Taiwan government has authorized an earthquake relief package valued at $878 million to facilitate reconstruction and recovery efforts. This allocation will primarily focus on repairing and rebuilding public facilities and private homes affected by the quakes. Additionally, funds have been allocated to support industrial revitalization and employment assistance programs.

The government has emphasized its commitment to collaborating with local authorities to ensure timely and appropriate aid for those impacted by the earthquakes. The aim is to expedite the process of rebuilding homes, revitalizing businesses, and restoring infrastructure to its pre-earthquake state.
