A serious allegation has been made against the driver of Tamil Nadu’s School Education Minister, Anbil Mahesh. Selva Kumar, Vice President of the Tamil Nadu BJP’s Industrial cell, has accused the driver and his friends of sexually assaulting a college student and then blackmailing her with a video of the assault. He further alleged that the state police are attempting to cover up the crime.
Kumar took to X (formerly Twitter) to make these claims, stating, “Another diversionary tactic from CM himself. Tamil Nadu CM is trying hard to divert public attention from School Education Minister and his misdeeds. School Education minister’s @Anbil_Mahesh driver and their friends sexually abused a college girl, took video of that crime, used that video to blackmail the girl and forced themselves on her multiple times. The victim went to Police Superintendent’s office and complained about this, since minister’s driver is involved no action taken so far. May be the police superintendent is busy covering up these crimes.”
According to a previous investigation by India Today TV, a 17-year-old girl filed a complaint with the District Superintendent of Police on September 3rd, alleging that she was gangraped. She also claimed that the accused and his friends used a video of the incident to blackmail her, threatening to release it online if she didn’t comply with their demands. However, in a later statement to India Today TV, the girl contradicted her police complaint and claimed that she was not gangraped and that Silambarasan, one of the accused, had sexually assaulted her. She stated that she wanted action taken only against him.
These allegations have triggered a storm of controversy in Tamil Nadu, with calls for a thorough investigation and action against those involved. The incident has also brought into question the state government’s commitment to protecting women and ensuring justice for victims of sexual assault. It remains to be seen how the authorities will respond to these serious allegations and whether a fair and impartial investigation will be conducted.
