In a bold display of protest, around 200 farmers from Tamil Nadu have congregated at Jantar Mantar in the heart of Delhi. Their primary concerns revolve around the dismal crop prices and the government’s inaction on river interlinking projects.
To amplify their voices, a group of farmers has resorted to an audacious tactic by scaling a mobile tower. Armed with ploughs and flags, they have also brought along skulls and bones, claiming they belong to farmers who have taken their own lives due to the dire agrarian crisis.
The farmers argue that despite government promises to double agricultural income, crop prices remain stagnant. Their demands include the implementation of a two-fold increase in crop prices, a pension of Rs 5,000 for farmers, individual insurance coverage, and the interlinking of all rivers nationwide.
In a firm statement, the farmers have declared that if their demands are not met, they will travel to Varanasi, the constituency of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, and contest the upcoming Lok Sabha elections against him. This threat underscores their unwavering determination to make their voices heard and force the government to address their pressing issues.
