Tamil Nadu Releases MBBS and BDS Rank List, Cut-offs Expected to Rise

The Tamil Nadu health minister, Ma Subramanian, has released the rank list for MBBS and BDS admissions for the academic year 2024-25. The announcement was made on Monday, with the minister highlighting that the cut-offs for medical admissions are likely to rise this year due to an improvement in student performance in the National Eligibility cum Entrance Test (NEET) 2024 compared to the previous year.

The first round of online counselling for government quota seats in state-run medical colleges and all seats in self-financing medical colleges and private medical colleges will begin on August 21st, 2024. Following the online counselling, offline counselling will be held on August 22nd at the Government Multi-Specialty Hospital in Omandurar for admission to seats under the 7.5% government quota and special categories such as sportspersons, people with disabilities, and children of defence personnel.

The minister emphasized that while there are no new seats in government colleges, the number of seats in the government quota has increased by 150 due to the addition of two new medical colleges. These include 50 MBBS seats at Annaii Medical College and Hospital in Sriperumbudur and 100 seats at Kanyakumari Medical Mission Research Centre. Admissions to all seats will be based on merit in NEET-2024 and the state’s reservation policy, ensuring a fair and transparent selection process.

Rajaneesh P from Villupuram topped the list for government quota seats, securing a perfect score of 720/720. He was followed by eight other students who achieved a score of 715, including Syed Aarifin Yusuf M, Shailaja S, Sriram P, Jayathi Poorvaraja M, Rohith R, Sabareesan S, Roshni Subramaniyan, and Vignesh M J. Vijaykrithikk Sasikumar of Coimbatore secured a score of 710.

In the 7.5% category, Roobika P of Krishnagiri topped the list with a score of 669, followed by Gayathridevi M from Salem with a score of 668. Anushiya S from Tiruvannamalai and Rathish G from Namakkal both scored 665.

There were also 343 applications for the sports category, 455 for children of defence personnel, and 133 from disabled individuals. This represents a 2,721 increase in applications compared to 2023.

Tamil Nadu has 36 government colleges with a combined total of 5,050 MBBS seats. In addition, there are 150 seats at the ESIC College in KK Nagar. The state will allocate 888 seats to the All India Quota. With the addition of government quota seats from self-financing colleges, the state will offer 6,630 seats under the government quota for MBBS and 1,683 for BDS. The state will also reserve 496 MBBS seats and 126 BDS seats for students from government schools.
