Tamil Nadu’s solar power generation achieved a new milestone on Saturday, as the Tamil Nadu Generation and Distribution Corporation (Tangedco) absorbed 40.9 million units (Mu) of solar power, exceeding the previous record of 40.5 Mu set on April 23. This marks the highest daily solar power generation in the state in three months, setting a new record for the year.
The peak solar power generation also reached a new high on Saturday, hitting 5,679 megawatts (MW), surpassing the previous record of 5,512 MW achieved on July 24. This remarkable achievement signifies that new milestones were attained on the same day for both overall generation and peak generation of solar power.
In contrast, wind power generation, which had been consistently between 80 Mu and 110 Mu over the past week, plummeted to 69.24 Mu on Saturday. Wind energy generators attributed the decline to rain, which caused fluctuations in power generation from windmills. However, they remain optimistic that wind power generation will rebound in the coming days.
The all-time high peak wind power generation was 5,838 MW, recorded on September 10, 2023, while the maximum wind power evacuation of 120.25 Mu in a day was on July 9, 2022. On Saturday, Tamil Nadu’s overall power consumption was 382.265 Mu, of which more than 110 Mu was met from green energy sources.
