A tanker carrying alcohol from a sugar factory overturned near the Khed Shivapur toll post on the Pune-Bengaluru highway early on Tuesday, said the police, adding that some amount of the inflammable material spilled onto the road, triggering panic.
The driver and cleaner of the tanker who received minor injuries were taken to hospital. The incident created a traffic jam on the highway from 3.45 am until the vehicle was cleared using a crane, the police said.
A team of Pune rural police and Pune Metropolitan Region Development Authority (PMRDA) fire brigade had rushed to the spot on getting an alert. Fire officials said that the tanker was transporting alcohol from the Rajarambapu Sugar Factory in Sangli to Vasai Virar.
