The Tata Curvv and Citroen Basalt are both vying for attention in the highly competitive midsize SUV market, each bringing a unique style to the table. The Citroen Basalt has already made its debut in India with a starting price of Rs 7.99 lakh (ex-showroom), valid for bookings until October 31. Meanwhile, the Tata Curvv, a new coupe SUV, is set to enter the Indian market on September 2.
In terms of dimensions, the Tata Curvv is wider by 45mm and taller by 37mm compared to the Citroen Basalt. The Basalt, however, is 44mm longer overall and boasts a wheelbase that’s a significant 91mm longer, potentially translating to more legroom for rear passengers. The Curvv’s greater height and width, on the other hand, could provide additional shoulder and headroom for its occupants.
While both vehicles offer similar-sized fuel tanks, the Tata Curvv takes the lead with its larger boot space and more substantial wheel and tire sizes.
Under the hood, both SUVs offer two petrol engine options, with Tata providing two turbo-petrol engines and Citroen featuring a single turbocharged engine. However, the Basalt’s performance lags behind the Curvv. The Basalt variant comes with an 82hp engine paired with a manual gearbox only. The Curvv variant, however, offers a dual-clutch automatic transmission with both petrol engines. Notably, the Basalt’s 110hp turbo-petrol engine, when paired with the torque-converter automatic, generates an extra 15Nm of torque compared to the manual version. Despite this, the Curvv’s direct injection turbo-petrol engine reigns supreme in terms of power.
Tata Curvv will also be available with a diesel engine option, and an EV version is already available at a price range of Rs 17.49 lakh to Rs 21.99 lakh. Citroen is expected to announce its full pricing details later this month. Tata, on the other hand, will unveil the prices for both petrol and diesel versions of the Curvv on September 2.
