Former US President Donald Trump has stirred up controversy by sharing AI-generated content on his social media platform, Truth Social, claiming Taylor Swift and her fans, the ‘Swifties,’ are backing his bid for the White House. The images, which include manipulated pictures of women wearing ‘Swifties For Trump’ shirts and a poster depicting Swift as Uncle Sam, aim to portray a sense of support from the singer and her fanbase. However, sources close to Swift have categorically denied these claims.
“If she didn’t support him last time, she’s not going to support him now. He’s clearly lost it. In more ways than one,” a source told the Daily Mail. While a few genuine ‘Swifties for Trump’ supporters have emerged, such as Jenna Piwowarczyk, who wore a ‘Swifties for Trump’ shirt at a Wisconsin rally, the idea of a large-scale movement appears to be more of a joke.
Despite this, a recent survey suggests Swift’s influence could significantly impact the outcome of the next US presidential election. A Newsweek poll of 1,500 voters revealed that 22% of those who supported Joe Biden in 2020 might lean towards Republican if Swift were to endorse Trump. Support for a Republican candidate endorsed by Swift has grown by nine points since January.
The poll also indicates that 18% of Americans might favor a candidate she endorses, while 15% might be less likely to support such a candidate. However, a majority, 55%, claim her endorsement wouldn’t affect their voting choice.
Taylor Swift has been a vocal critic of Donald Trump in the past. In 2020, she pledged to vote him out and slammed him on social media, accusing him of stoking racism and white supremacy. It remains to be seen how Swift’s stance will influence the upcoming election, but her potential endorsement has become a topic of intense speculation and debate.
