At the 2024 MTV Video Music Awards, held on September 11th, Taylor Swift took home the coveted Best Video award for her self-directed masterpiece, “Fortnight feat. Post Malone.” While accepting the honor, Swift shared an emotional tribute to her boyfriend, Travis Kelce, highlighting his presence and support throughout the filming process.
Joined by Post Malone and the rest of her team on stage at the UBS Arena in Long Island, New York, Swift expressed her gratitude: “Directing, editing, and writing this video was an incredible experience. I couldn’t have done it without everyone involved.” She specifically acknowledged Ethan Hawke and Josh Charles, who made cameo appearances in the video, Rodrigo Prieto, her “genius” cinematographer known for his collaborative spirit with female directors, production designer Ethan Tobman, who also worked on her “Eras Tour,” and, of course, “the one and only” Post Malone.
Swift continued, sharing a poignant anecdote: “The video might make you sad, but filming it was the most fun I’ve ever had. Every time I yelled ‘cut,’ there was this voice from the back of the studio cheering me on. That voice belonged to my boyfriend, Travis. Everything he touches is happy and fun. It’s magic. So, thank you for bringing that magic to the set. I’ll never forget it.”
Before closing her speech, Swift expressed heartfelt gratitude to her fans for their support of her “Eras Tour” and her album, “The Tortured Poets Department.” She also thanked MTV for giving her a platform to acknowledge her fans and their unwavering dedication. She concluded by urging her audience to register to vote for the upcoming US presidential election in November. Just the day before, Swift had publicly endorsed Kamala Harris for President.
With her Best Video win, Taylor Swift secured seven awards at this year’s VMAs, bringing her total trophy count to 30. This milestone makes her the most awarded solo artist in VMA history, surpassing Beyoncé’s previous record.
