Technics, a renowned Hi-Fi brand, has released a new dedicated Hi-Fi turntable, the SL-1300G, pushing the boundaries of audio excellence. Building upon the exceptional ΔΣ-Drive (Delta Sigma Drive) motor control technology first introduced in the SL-1200GR2 last year, Technics is making this breakthrough technology accessible at a higher level. The SL-1300G represents the culmination of Technics’ turntable expertise, showcasing the unparalleled sonic capabilities of their latest innovation.
The SL-1300G leverages the ΔΣ-Drive technology, a revolutionary motor control system that utilizes PWM signal generation with ΔΣ Modulation, minimizing motor vibrations for ultra-smooth rotational accuracy. This technology, initially introduced in the SL-1200GR2, is further enhanced in the SL-1300G with a more sophisticated iron-coreless motor and a multi-layered platter, pushing the boundaries of sonic perfection.
The SL-1300G boasts an iron-coreless double rotor/single stator motor, significantly more powerful than the single rotor/single stator motor in the SL-1200GR2. This advanced motor design ensures exceptional rotational smoothness and minimizes cogging. To further reduce vibrations, the coil mounting circuit board has been reinforced, effectively dampening mechanical vibrations during rotation.
The SL-1300G features a heavier, multi-layered platter designed to further minimize vibrations during vinyl playback. This three-layer platter consists of a rigid aluminium die-cast base, a 2mm-thick brass top layer, and a heavy-weight rubber bottom layer, working together to eliminate even the slightest vibrations. This results in a highly detailed, spatially accurate, and rhythmically breathtaking sound experience.
Complementing the mechanical enhancements, the SL-1300G incorporates a new Multi-stage Silent Power Supply, similar to the one used in the reference turntable SL-1000R. This sophisticated power supply system utilizes a low-noise, high-speed power supply operating at over 100kHz, coupled with a noise cancellation circuit. This innovative system eliminates residual noise, achieving an incredibly low noise floor and exceptional signal-to-noise ratio, ultimately improving overall signal performance.
The SL-1300G’s construction is equally impressive, featuring a 2-layered bottom chassis made of aluminium die-cast and BMC (Bulk Moulding Compound), providing a rock-solid foundation that resists vibrations. The thickness of the aluminium die-cast bottom chassis has been increased for enhanced rigidity, further improving vibration damping. To further isolate the tonearm from motor vibrations, a carefully designed rib structure has been incorporated between the motor and the tonearm, ensuring an undisturbed tracking process for exceptional sound fidelity.
The SL-1300G is equipped with a high-sensitivity S-shaped aluminium tonearm featuring high-precision bearings, maximizing the benefits of the vibration-free chassis for precise tracking of vinyl grooves. Highly effective insulator feet further minimize external vibrations, contributing to even greater tracking precision.
The SL-1300G’s design embodies its purpose as a dedicated Hi-Fi turntable. Its minimalistic design highlights the engineering concept of purity and straightforwardness. In a commitment to environmental responsibility, Technics has eliminated Expanded Polystyrene (EPS) from the SL-1300G’s packaging, replacing it with smart shaped cardboard for secure protection. The new packaging includes a cardboard box for accessories, simplifying storage and removal.
Technics plans to expand this eco-friendly packaging approach to other product lines and incorporate more recyclable materials in the future. The SL-1300G will be available in December at authorized Technics retailers for $3299.99.
