In a recent interview with Fox News Digital, Republican Senator Ted Cruz of Texas made accusations against Democratic candidate Colin Allred, alleging that Allred’s campaign received funding from individuals and organizations that support anti-Israel demonstrations. Cruz specifically named the Soros, Rockefeller, Pritzker, and Gates families as major donors to Allred, claiming that these families have connections to organizations involved in anti-Israel protests and demonstrations.
Cruz stated that these protests, which have taken place on college campuses across the country, are being funded by Joe Biden and the Democrats’ top donors. He named Allred’s donors as being among those who have supported these demonstrations, which he characterized as anti-Israel and antisemitic.
Cruz claimed that Allred has accepted $80,000 from donors who are funding anti-Israel and antisemitic protests on college campuses. According to Cruz, this funding includes contributions from the Soros, Rockefeller, Pritzker, and Gates families, as well as their associated organizations.
Records show that the four families have provided just under $80,000 to Allred’s electoral efforts, including his congressional and Senate campaigns, associated committees, and All In PAC. However, some of the organizations mentioned by Cruz have denied involvement in funding the protests. For instance, Open Society, founded by George Soros, stated that it does not exercise control over the smaller groups it funds, many of which advocate for social justice causes.
The Rockefeller Brothers Fund has provided grants to the organization Jewish Voice for Peace, which has organized anti-Israel demonstrations and identifies as anti-Zionist. The Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation has also provided funding to the Tides Foundation and Tides Center, which are known to support organizations involved in anti-Israel demonstrations.
Both the Tides Foundation and Gates Foundation have denied funding the demonstrations either directly or indirectly. The Gates Foundation stated that its grants to the Tides Center are related to education, while the Tides Foundation emphasized its focus on supporting social change leaders and communities historically denied power.
Cruz called on Allred to return the money he has received from these donors, stating that Allred has a choice to make. He urged Allred to stand with the people of Israel and return the donations or continue to accept funding from those who support anti-Israel demonstrations.
Allred’s campaign, the Pritzkers’ Libra Foundation, and the Rockefeller Brothers Fund have not yet provided comments on Cruz’s allegations. The accusations made by Cruz highlight the ongoing debate over the sources of funding for political campaigns and the potential influence of special interests on elected officials.
