Alfie Lewis was on his way to meet friends when he was approached by the defendant, who cannot be named for legal reasons. The court heard that Alfie told the defendant to ‘chill out’ and asked ‘what are you doing?’ as he pulled out the knife. Alfie suffered a 14cm deep chest wound which hit his heart, leading to ‘catastrophic’ internal bleeding, a post-mortem found. He also suffered stab wounds to his jaw and thigh. The defendant had been carrying the knife around ‘all day’ in hopes of seeing Alfie, the court was told. After the fight began between Alfie and the other teen, a teacher told of how she ran towards the fight and ‘thought he had witnessed Alfie being punched in the chest’. Another witness said they saw Alfie ‘trying to keep the defendant away from him with his legs’ and another said she saw the defendant approach Alfie and then ‘attack him’. The trial continues.
