Indian athlete Tejas Shirse brought home a silver medal in the men’s 110m hurdles at the Atletica Geneve – EAP meet, a World Athletics Continental Tour (Bronze level) event, held in Geneva, Switzerland on Saturday. The 21-year-old clocked a time of 13.60s, finishing behind Colombia’s John Paredes who secured gold with a time of 13.49s.
Meanwhile, Shaili Singh finished fourth in the women’s long jump. Shaili and Lithuania’s Jogaile Petrokaite were initially tied for third place with a jump of 6.33m. However, a tiebreaker based on their second-best jumps saw Petrokaite edge out Shaili (6.30m to 6.28m), leaving Shaili in fourth place. The gold medal went to local favorite Annik Kalin with a jump of 6.56m.
This silver medal follows Shaili’s recent win at the JBL Jump Fest in Kosice, Slovakia, on Thursday. However, the World Athletics has removed the results from Slovakia’s competition from the ranking system, which means Shaili will not be awarded world-ranking points from that event.
Both Tejas and Shaili are now focused on the National Inter-State Athletics Championships in Panchkula, which will take place from June 27 to 30. This event serves as their final chance to qualify for the Paris Olympics.
The automatic qualification mark for the men’s 110m hurdles at the Olympics is 13.27s. A total of 40 athletes will compete in the event, with 23 already qualifying by meeting the standard and the remaining 17 places to be filled by athletes based on world rankings. Tejas, who set a new National Record last month with a time of 13.41s, currently holds the 61st position in the Road to Paris Rankings.
In the women’s long jump, the automatic qualification mark is 6.86m. The National Record is held by Anju Bobby George (6.83m), with Shaili (6.76m) occupying the second spot on the all-time list. A total of 32 athletes will compete in the event, with 15 already qualifying through the qualifying standard. The remaining 17 spots will be filled based on world rankings. Shaili currently holds the 46th position in the rankings.
