Telangana Unveils Ambitious Tourism Plan: Temple, Eco, Health Focus & 1,000-Acre Zoo

Telangana is on a mission to transform itself into a thriving tourism hub, with the state government announcing ambitious plans to bolster its appeal to both domestic and international travelers. Three new tourism policies focusing on temple tourism, eco-tourism, and health tourism are being introduced, along with the exciting prospect of a 1,000-acre zoological park outside Hyderabad.

Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy, during a review meeting on SPEED (Smart, Proactive, Efficient, and Effective Delivery) projects, emphasized the need for separate policies tailored to different tourism segments. He stressed the importance of studying successful models from other states, like Kerala’s renowned eco-tourism model or Rajasthan’s heritage and temple tourism, to create a unique and compelling offering for Telangana.

The new tourism policies are designed to be inclusive, fostering growth that benefits not just tourists but also local communities. The vision is to create a robust ecosystem where tourism generates jobs, empowers local entrepreneurs, and promotes sustainable development while preserving Telangana’s rich cultural and natural resources.

The 1,000-acre zoological park, planned for a location outside Hyderabad, promises to be a major draw for visitors, offering a unique experience with diverse animal species. Chief Minister Reddy envisioned a partnership with the private sector, drawing inspiration from initiatives like Anant Ambani’s Vantara animal shelter in Jamnagar, Gujarat. To encourage private investment, the state government plans to offer attractive incentives, including tax benefits, subsidies, and streamlined regulatory approvals.

Recognizing the importance of accessibility and infrastructure, the state is investing in improving road, rail, and air connectivity to key tourist spots. Modern amenities, including hotels, resorts, restaurants, and recreational facilities, are being developed near major attractions to cater to a wide range of tourists.

Telangana is also prioritizing responsible tourism practices, emphasizing the need to preserve the state’s environment, culture, and heritage. The new policies will incorporate guidelines for sustainable practices, including eco-friendly initiatives, waste management, and community engagement.

To ensure the benefits of tourism reach the grassroots level, the government is actively engaging local communities. This includes providing training and skill development programs to prepare them for jobs in the tourism sector, ranging from hospitality and tour guiding to eco-friendly practices. Local artisans and craftsmen will also be encouraged to showcase their products to tourists, providing them with a larger market and enriching the tourist experience.

The new tourism policies and the planned zoological park are key components of Telangana’s strategic vision to become a global tourism destination. By leveraging its cultural heritage, natural beauty, and modern healthcare facilities, the state aims to attract a diverse range of visitors. The commitment to inclusive and sustainable tourism development, coupled with the collaborative approach involving the private sector, sets the stage for a thriving tourism industry in Telangana. This ambitious plan is poised to not only boost the state’s economy but also safeguard its cultural and natural heritage, ensuring a sustainable legacy for future generations.
