Julie Trias and Elizabeth Nammour faced challenges in managing data spread across various sources during their time at Airbnb’s data team. The existing data protection tools proved inadequate, prompting them to create Teleskope, an automated data protection tool that addresses the need for secure and efficient data management. The startup recently announced a $5 million seed investment led by Primary Venture Partners, Lerer Hippeau, Plug and Play Ventures, and Essence VC. Teleskope’s platform connects to data sources, identifies sensitive data through its pipeline of models, and enables actions such as isolation or deletion. These models are designed for different data formats, including natural language, structured tabular data, code bases, and log files. Despite their technical expertise, Trias and Nammour initially encountered difficulties in the venture capital world due to their lack of experience and the gender bias faced by female founders. With refinement and determination, they found investors who aligned with their vision and secured the funding to advance their mission of providing comprehensive data protection.
