TELUS Expands PureFibre Network to Doig River First Nation and Other BC Communities

TELUS Corporation (TU) is making significant strides in expanding its high-speed internet footprint in British Columbia. The company has announced a plan to deploy its cutting-edge PureFibre service to Doig River First Nation, located about 70 kilometers northeast of Fort St. John, and to hundreds of homes in 14 other communities. This expansion marks a crucial step in TELUS’ ongoing mission to bring its advanced PureFibre technology to numerous communities, residents, and businesses across the province.

The new fibre-optic network will not only provide Doig River First Nation residents with access to ultra-fast internet speeds but also serve as a foundation for TELUS’ wireless services and future 5G technologies. This connectivity will empower residents with the resources needed to fully participate in and benefit from the digital economy.

Doig River First Nation was among the first to receive broadband through the Pathways to Technology initiative back in 2011. This initiative, which TELUS has been a longtime partner of, is funding the fibre upgrade.

TELUS PureFibre is a 100% fibre-to-the-home network, utilizing state-of-the-art fibre optics directly connected to homes and businesses. This ensures the fastest possible internet speeds and reliable, sustainable technology.

The importance of high-speed internet in today’s digital world cannot be overstated. It’s crucial for accessing healthcare, education, and business opportunities, among countless other vital applications. TELUS’ commitment to expanding its network aligns with the broader goal of achieving digital inclusivity for all Canadians. In fact, the federal government, in partnership with TELUS, aims to bring high-speed internet to every home in British Columbia by 2027.

This recent expansion follows TELUS’ previous announcement last month of bringing PureFibre to the Township of Langley, Kwantlen First Nation’s McMillan Island 6, and Katzie First Nation’s Katzie 2 communities.

TELUS is actively collaborating with Indigenous, federal, provincial, and local governments to expand access to its advanced technology. The company emphasizes that this collaborative effort is crucial for ensuring that everyone in Canada has the resources needed to reach their full potential and improve their social and economic outcomes.

As a leading communications technology firm, TELUS is recognized for its expertise in developing, constructing, and delivering advanced solutions, including artificial intelligence and content moderation. The company’s commitment to bridging the digital divide and empowering communities through innovative technology is driving its continued network expansion and solidifying its position as a key player in Canada’s digital future.
