Temple University has announced that highly-touted transfer guard Jamal Mashburn Jr. will be joining the Owls for the 2024-25 season. Mashburn Jr., the son of former NBA All-Star Jamal Mashburn, spent the past three seasons at the University of New Mexico, where he earned All-Mountain West honors on three occasions. The 22-year-old guard averaged 17.3 points per game during his time with the Lobos and is expected to provide a significant offensive boost for Temple next season.
The addition of Mashburn Jr. continues Temple’s recent trend of paying homage to the 2000s NBA era, following their hiring of former NBA Sixth Man of the Year Aaron McKie as head coach in 2021. While McKie has since stepped down to become a special advisor for the Owls, the program’s current head coach, Adam Fisher, is eager to incorporate Mashburn Jr.’s talents into the team’s system.
Temple finished the 2023-24 season with an underwhelming 16-20 record, but the addition of Mashburn Jr., who has one year of eligibility remaining, is expected to provide a much-needed spark to the Owls’ offense. With his impressive scoring ability and pedigree, Mashburn Jr. is poised to make a significant impact for Temple next season.
