Terraria, the beloved 2D crafting and adventure game, has captured the hearts of countless players since its release in 2011. Its pixelated world, filled with endless possibilities for exploration, building, and combat, has cemented its place as a pioneer in the survival crafting genre. While Terraria has been ported to almost every platform imaginable, a common question arises: can players across different systems play together?
Unfortunately, Terraria’s cross-platform support is quite limited. Currently, the only platforms that allow crossplay are iOS and Android devices. This means that players on PlayStation, Xbox, Nintendo, or PC are unable to join the same worlds as their friends on different systems. The only exception to this rule is within the same console family. For example, PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 5 players can play together, and the same goes for Xbox One and Xbox Series X|S players.
In addition to the lack of cross-platform play, Terraria also lacks cross-progression. This means that your world and progress are tied to the specific platform where you created it. You can’t transfer your save data to another system.
While the limited cross-platform support might be a disappointment for many, it’s important to note that the developers have focused on bringing the game to a wide range of platforms, making it accessible to a vast audience. As Terraria continues to evolve, perhaps we’ll see more cross-platform features in the future. Until then, players are encouraged to explore the world of Terraria with friends on compatible platforms, creating lasting memories and exciting adventures together.
