Martin Lewis, the UK’s beloved finance guru from Money Saving Expert (MSE), has issued a three-day warning for all Tesco Clubcard holders. A whopping £14 million worth of Tesco Clubcard vouchers are set to expire on August 31st, and if you’re a fan of saving on your weekly shop, you’ll want to take heed. Don’t worry, MSE has provided a detailed guide to help you check and extend the validity of your vouchers. Here’s everything you need to know.
How to Convert Tesco Clubcard Points into Vouchers
Your Tesco Clubcard points aren’t just for groceries. You can convert them into vouchers that can be redeemed at a variety of exciting locations, from restaurants to theme parks. To do this, you’ll need a minimum of 150 points. You can convert your points into vouchers by signing into the Tesco Grocery & Clubcard app, or by visiting the ‘My Clubcard account’ tab online at tesco.com. Select the button to turn your points into vouchers, click on ‘request vouchers’, and voila! Your vouchers will appear in your Clubcard account within seconds.
Extending Your Tesco Clubcard Vouchers: The Deadline is August 31st
Tesco Clubcard vouchers are only valid for two years from the date they were issued. But fret not, there’s a handy trick to extend their expiry date by another two years. As MSE explains, you can extend your vouchers by buying something either through the Tesco Clubcard Rewards page or by donating to one of its charity partners. This means you’ll get the remaining balance of your voucher credited back to your Clubcard account as points. For example, if you spend 50p using a £5 Clubcard voucher, you’ll receive 450 points back (worth £4.50). You can then manually swap these points for vouchers or wait for them to be converted with your next statement. The expiry date for these new vouchers will be two years from the date they were issued.
Maximizing Your Savings: The Smartest Way to Extend Your Vouchers
While there’s no minimum spend required to extend your vouchers, MSE suggests aiming for as little as possible. For example, purchasing a 50p restaurant voucher (worth £1 at a restaurant of your choice) could be a good option. You’ll need to do this for each voucher in your account if you want to extend them all, so it’s worth doing the math beforehand. If you have a £10 voucher, the effort might be worth it, but if you have multiple £1 vouchers, it might not be as worthwhile.
