Tesco’s Milk Freezing Hack: Stop Wasting Food and Save Money

We’re all trying to lower the amount of food we waste, especially with the rising cost of living. When it comes to food shopping, we know it doesn’t come cheap. Whether you’re a weekly in-store shopper or prefer online grocery deliveries, the cost can be a strain. Supermarket giant Tesco has a simple yet effective solution to help us stretch our food budget further: freezing milk.

Most of us know we can freeze bread or bananas, but did you know milk can also be frozen? According to Tesco’s website, freezing milk can prevent it from going to waste.

To freeze milk effectively, pour a little bit out of a full or unopened carton before freezing. This allows space for the milk to expand as it freezes. Alternatively, pour the milk into an airtight container.

To defrost frozen milk, simply place it in the fridge overnight. Once thawed, give it a good shake to mix the milk and fat back together, and use it as usual.

If you have a small amount of milk leftover, pour it into ice cube trays. This allows you to use only the amount you need, whether it’s for a cup of tea or a topping for your overnight oats.

Courtney Pallett, a campaigns manager at Tesco, emphasizes the importance of freezing to reduce food waste: “Your freezer is your friend when it comes to reducing food waste and avoiding throwing food away. Most of the foods that often end up in the bin, such as milk, bananas, and avocados, can be saved by freezing them to use later.”

So, give Tesco’s milk freezing hack a try and say goodbye to wasted milk and hello to a more budget-friendly grocery experience.
