Tesla Cybertruck owners have encountered unexpected breakdowns following routine car washes, prompting concerns about the electric pickup’s resistance to water. Despite its advertised toughness, the Cybertruck seems to have a susceptibility to moisture-related issues.
One owner reported a breakdown after washing off sand from a beach visit. After only two months of ownership and less than 3,400 miles on the odometer, the Cybertruck malfunctioned. The owner attempted a reset but was unsuccessful in restoring functionality.
Online commentators have criticized the truck, labeling it a ‘tin can’ and a ‘paperweight’ due to its perceived lack of durability. Despite its bulletproof reputation, the Cybertruck’s vulnerability to water has raised questions about its overall robustness.
Tesla’s Cybertruck owner’s manual includes precautions and warnings regarding car washes. It advises against washing in direct sunlight and provides guidelines to prevent damage during the process. Notably, the manual states that failure to engage ‘Car Wash Mode’ could result in damage to components like the charge port or windshield wipers, and such damage is not covered by the warranty.
Tesla, led by CEO Elon Musk, has remained silent on the incidents. Meanwhile, the company has recently implemented price cuts across its models in China, including the Cybertruck, in response to declining sales and increasing competition from Chinese electric vehicle manufacturers.
