Tesla’s Cybertruck is getting an exciting new accessory: an off-road light bar. This powerful LED fixture, positioned above the front windshield, is part of the Foundation Series “Cyberbeast” version of the electric truck and boasts an impressive 525-yard illumination range. However, there’s a twist. While the light bar is expected to be delivered in 2025, Tesla has informed its customers that its employees are not legally permitted to install the necessary electronics for it.
This means that customers who want to equip their Cybertrucks with this feature will have to set it up themselves. Some customers have already received the light bar but have been left to handle the installation on their own. To help out, Tesla has provided one customer with the necessary parts and the contact details of a nearby mechanic who can complete the installation.
The manual explicitly states that Tesla staff “are not permitted to connect or assist with the connection of the Cybertruck off-road lightbar harness to the roof accessory jumper harness connector.” This raises questions about the convenience and practicality of the accessory, especially considering Tesla’s emphasis on the Cybertruck’s versatility and innovation.
This news comes after Tesla’s announcement that the Cybertruck’s battery can be used with the Powerwall to power homes, highlighting their ambition to make the Cybertruck a central part of its customers’ lives, beyond just transportation. However, the off-road light bar situation adds another layer of complexity, potentially deterring some customers from embracing this unique feature.
While the Cybertruck has generated significant demand and continues to dominate the U.S. EV market, this DIY installation requirement for the off-road light bar might pose a challenge for some customers. It remains to be seen whether this will impact the popularity of the Cybertruck and its potential for widespread adoption.
