Tesla is expanding the family-friendly appeal of its popular Model Y SUV. The electric vehicle giant has introduced a 7-seat configuration for the Model Y in the Netherlands, specifically for the Long Range All-Wheel Drive variant. This new option caters to larger families seeking a spacious and versatile electric vehicle.
The announcement was made on X (formerly Twitter) from Tesla’s European and Middle Eastern account. The 7-seat interior adds a significant feature to the Model Y, enhancing its practicality for multi-person households.
In the Netherlands, the 7-seat option is available for an additional 2,500 euros ($2,722) on top of the Long Range All-Wheel Drive Model Y’s starting price of 52,990 euros. The UK market also offers the 7-seat option for an additional 2,500 pounds, with the base price of the Long Range All-Wheel Drive variant starting at 51,990 pounds.
This move comes as no surprise, as Tesla has already been offering the 7-seat interior for the Long Range All-Wheel Drive Model Y in the US. However, the pricing differs slightly with an additional $2000 or $1000, depending on the chosen interior color.
The Model 3 and Model Y remain the main driving forces behind Tesla’s sales, accounting for around 95% of the company’s global vehicle deliveries in the third quarter. Tesla delivered a combined 439,975 Model 3 and Model Y units during this period.
While the Model Y is proving to be a popular choice for families, Tesla’s overall sales in the European Union are facing a decline. Data from the European Automobile Manufacturers’ Association (ACEA) indicates a 15% drop in Tesla sales through the end of August, reaching 152,607 units. This decline coincides with a 5% drop in overall Battery Electric Vehicle (BEV) sales within the EU.
This move to offer a 7-seat option in the Netherlands is likely a strategic move to boost sales and appeal to a wider customer base in Europe. Tesla is clearly focused on expanding the Model Y’s reach and positioning it as a compelling family vehicle option in various markets.
