TESLA has unveiled a “quicker, more powerful version” of the UK’s second-best selling car. The new Model 3 Performance has gone on sale for £59,990 and is promised as being a decent upgrade to the favourite.
First released in 2017, the Model 3 has been given a thorough facelift by the Elon Musk -helmed manufacturer. Sitting at the basic end of the current Tesla range, it has gained renown as one of the world’s best-selling EVs , with over 2 million sent out. The Model 3 was the UK’s second-best selling car in 2021, according to Auto Express .
The electric car will do 0-60mph in 2.9 seconds, point two of a second faster than the original model. Its top speed is only 1mph faster than the original also, topping out at 163mph. Tesla said in a press release they had made: “what we consider to be a perfect, high-performance daily driver.”
The £60,000 price tag puts it at £10,000 more expensive than the Long Range and £20,000 more than the entry level Model 3.
The Performance has also been given a facelift with a more aerodynamic design, a new cooling duct in the front bumper, there’s also new headlights and rear lights. Despite the new cooling duct, the car doesn’t need to cool the engine as electric motors don’t generate heat.
Inside has the same 15.4-inch screen as the rest of the Model 3 range with the same minimalist interior theme. But the Performance does come with sport seats with extra side support than can also be heated and ventilated. A carbon fibre spoiler has been added and the new wheels with a staggered set up to improve handling and turning. There’s also been a number of changes made to the chassis, suspension, and brakes to also improve handling.
A Tesla spokesperson said: “This update brings more refinement and comfort – inside and out – while staying true to its sleek, uncluttered design aesthetic.
“We have not departed from what made Model 3 a global best-seller: delivering great range and efficiency with sports-car performance and handling at an approachable price point.
“The upgraded Model 3 is instantly recognisable as a Model 3 with a refined body and presence, better aero, new lighting, and a brand new interior that elevates what customers love about Model 3.”
