Elon Musk’s Tesla has announced plans to introduce more affordable electric vehicles (EVs) using its existing production lines. Tesla is developing a ‘next-generation vehicle platform’ that incorporates an ‘unboxed’ manufacturing process, aiming to reduce EV production costs. The company has previously hinted at two upcoming vehicles on this platform, including a model smaller and cheaper than the Model 3, known as the ‘$25,000 Tesla’ or ‘Model 2’. Tesla is also working on a Robotaxi designed specifically for autonomous driving. Earlier reports suggested Tesla had discontinued development of its planned cheaper EVs. However, Tesla has confirmed that more affordable models are still planned, but they will not utilize the new ‘unboxed’ production lines. The company expects to launch these new vehicles ahead of the previously announced start of production in the second half of 2025. Tesla has also confirmed that its previously announced Robotaxi will be built using the ‘unboxed’ system. This revised plan indicates that Tesla is prioritizing flexibility and efficiency in its EV production, while still committing to the development of more affordable models and autonomous driving technology.
