Tesoro Titans Capture South Coast League Softball Title

Tesoro High School’s softball team has had a remarkable season, culminating in their triumph in the South Coast League. This victory marks the Titans’ first league title since 2011.

Leading the charge was pitcher Loula-Rae McNamara, who showcased her exceptional skills. Against Mission Viejo, McNamara allowed just one earned run on six hits, striking out five batters and walking two. Her off-speed pitches, precise location, and guidance from catcher Kennedy Proctor proved invaluable, inducing several grounders that turned into outs.

Proctor deserves recognition for her outstanding defensive play and ability to call the right pitches for McNamara. The left-handed McNamara recently achieved a perfect game, highlighting her remarkable talent.

The Titans’ defense as a whole was a force to be reckoned with. Shortstop Kiara Cisneros, second baseman Sami Macchiaroli, and third baseman Bella Barley frequently made impressive plays, ensuring that McNamara had ample support.

McNamara acknowledged the crucial role her defense played in her success, stating, “I couldn’t have done this without my defense behind me. I know that when I pitch the ball, they’re going to make the play if I hit my spots.”

Tesoro’s offense also played a significant role in their victory. The top four batters, Cisneros, Sammy Weiss, McNamara, and Proctor, all singled in the first inning to kickstart a four-run rally. Cisneros, committed to San Diego State, went 3 for 4, while Proctor and McNamara each had two hits.

“I knew we’d have to work hard, and it wouldn’t be easy, but I knew we could do it,” said Proctor. “We have a very talented group of girls. Once we all clicked together, we became like a well-oiled machine.”

Mission Viejo, ranked 10th in CIF-SS Division 2, put up a valiant fight, tying the score 4-4 in the second inning on two-run doubles by Kylee Jepson and Ava Tabangcura. However, Tesoro’s resilience and composure ultimately prevailed.

In other league action, Canyon defeated Esperanza 6-5 in a 15-inning marathon to claim the Crestview League title. BYU commit Irma Urincho hit a homerun in the 15th inning to lead the Comanches to victory.

Tesoro’s triumph in the South Coast League is a testament to their hard work, determination, and exceptional talent. With McNamara leading the pitching staff and a solid defense behind her, the Titans are well-positioned for further success in the CIF-SS playoffs.
