Texas A&M Adds Linebacker Solomon DeShields from Pitt

Another power conference program has swiftly acquired a transfer from the University of Pittsburgh, with linebacker Solomon DeShields committing to Texas A&M University. This marks the second Pitt transfer in two days to join a new program.

DeShields was expected to be a starting outside linebacker for Pitt this season, but he is among 15 players who have announced plans to leave the program since the end of the 2023 season. Of those players, six have indicated that they will play for power schools, including DeShields, defensive ends Dayon Hayes and Sam Okunlola (Colorado), safety Buddy Mack, linebacker Bangally Kamara, and defensive tackle Deandre Jules (South Carolina).

DeShields, a 6-foot-3, 225-pound linebacker, has accumulated 86 tackles, including 13 for loss and six sacks, in 41 games over four seasons at Pitt. He started 12 games in 2023, his only year as a starter.

Prior to his commitment to Texas A&M, DeShields had attracted interest from several other schools, including Washington, Iowa State, Syracuse, and Colorado, according to college football writer Jason Howell of texags.com.
