TexPower EV Technologies Inc., a rapidly growing company specializing in lithium-ion battery cathode development, is thrilled to announce the addition of Lithium Iron Phosphate (LFP) cathode active material to its portfolio of chemistries. This expansion signifies a strategic move towards meeting the increasing demand for high-performance, cost-effective battery solutions in the North American market.
The production of LFP materials will be powered by a license agreement with Guangzhou Tinci Materials Technology Co. (Tinci), a renowned leader in the battery materials industry. Tinci’s proven process technology will enable TexPower to rapidly scale up its LFP production, ensuring high performance and quality. “We are delighted to collaborate with TexPower as they develop our licensed LFP technology for the North American market. We are confident that this partnership will bring our existing LFP technology to this rapidly evolving market,” said Litao Shi, CTO of Tinci.
TexPower will manufacture this new material at its Houston, TX facility, where a 15 ton/year pilot line is currently operational. The company is actively evaluating the site for up to 20 GWh of cathode production by 2027, with production slated to begin in 2026. The material will adhere to the requirements of the Inflation Reduction Act, further solidifying TexPower’s commitment to supporting the development of a robust domestic battery supply chain.
TexPower is offering samples of the material for both laboratory and manufacturing-scale evaluations. “We are committed to expanding U.S. manufacturing of lithium-ion batteries by providing high-performing, cost-competitive cathode chemistries for various applications. Our goal is to become a leading supplier of U.S.-made cathodes by 2030,” said Wangda Li, CTO of TexPower.
This strategic partnership marks a significant milestone for both TexPower and Tinci, highlighting their commitment to advancing the adoption of sustainable and efficient energy solutions. The collaboration will not only strengthen the U.S. battery industry but also contribute to a cleaner and more sustainable future.
About TexPower EV Technologies Inc.
TexPower, a spin-off from the University of Texas at Austin, established its headquarters in Houston, TX in 2020, carrying forward the disruptive innovations in lithium-ion batteries spearheaded by Professors John B. Goodenough and Arumugam Manthiram. TexPower is dedicated to deploying cobalt-free, high-performing, cost-competitive cathode materials in lithium-based batteries used across North America and beyond. The company’s patented cobalt-free Nickel Manganese Aluminum (NMA) cathodes boast up to 15% greater energy than mainstream NCM/NCA cathodes. TexPower’s manufacturing facility in Houston focuses on developing, optimizing, and producing IRA-compliant cathode active materials for the rapidly expanding North American market.
About Guangzhou Tinci Materials Technology Co. (Tinci)
Founded in 2000, Tinci operates in two key business sectors: lithium-ion battery materials and personal care and specialty chemicals. Since 2015, Tinci has been a global leader in lithium-ion battery electrolyte sales, with a market share of 36% and a production volume exceeding 390,000 tons in 2023. The company has developed core electrolyte raw materials and additives, such as liquid lithium hexafluorophosphate, LiFSI, VC, DTD, and lithium difluorophosphate. Tinci has also developed cathode and precursor materials, cathode and anode binders, glue products for lithium batteries, and a battery material recycling business.
In 2020, Tinci launched its international expansion, establishing subsidiaries in the United States, Germany, Morocco, and Singapore, along with a laboratory in South Korea, to accelerate its global growth strategy. Tinci is dedicated to building an advanced “green chemistry, circular economy, intelligent manufacturing” manufacturing and technology center, driven by its mission of “green chemistry to achieve a low-carbon and beautiful life.”
