Thai Grand Prix to Kick Off 2025 and 2026 MotoGP Seasons

The Thai Grand Prix will be the opening race of the 2025 and 2026 MotoGP seasons, organizers announced on Wednesday. The race, previously held in October at the Chang International Circuit in Buriram, will now kick off the season on March 2nd, marking a significant change for the racing calendar.

This decision reflects the growing importance of the Southeast Asian market for MotoGP. Carmelo Ezpeleta, CEO of MotoGP promoter Dorna, emphasized this in a statement, highlighting the region’s significance both for the sport and for its factories and partners. He also acknowledged the passionate fan base in Thailand, evidenced by the large crowds at the Buriram circuit each year, and expressed confidence that they will create a thrilling atmosphere for the season opener.

For the past two decades, the MotoGP season typically began in Qatar at the Lusail International Circuit. However, the shift to Thailand signals a strategic move by MotoGP to expand its presence in Southeast Asia and capitalize on the enthusiastic fanbase in the region. This change promises to bring a new dynamic to the MotoGP season and set the stage for exciting racing action in the years to come.
