The Tourism Authority of Thailand (TAT) is gearing up to host two significant events in Chennai, India: the “Amazing Thailand Fest 2024 @ Chennai” and “Amazing Thailand: Director’s Cut.” These events are strategically designed to highlight Thailand’s most captivating experiences, solidifying its position as a premier global destination for travelers and filmmakers alike.
The “Amazing Thailand Fest @ Chennai,” scheduled for September 27-29 at the Central Atrium, Express Avenue Mall, promises a vibrant showcase of Thai culture and soft power. The event will focus on the ‘Five Must-Do’ experiences: Must Taste, Must Try, Must Buy, Must Seek, and Must See, offering visitors a comprehensive glimpse into Thailand’s diverse offerings.
Visitors can expect interactive zones dedicated to various aspects of Thai culture, including a tourism information booth, a fashion display highlighting the historical ties between Thai and Indian textiles, and a film location zone featuring a ‘green screen’ for memorable photo opportunities. A dedicated Muay Thai zone will provide an exciting glimpse into Thailand’s famous martial art.
The festival will also feature a fusion of cultural performances, seamlessly blending Thai and Indian traditions. Guests can enjoy traditional Thai silk weaving demonstrations, the captivating long drum dance, performances from the Thai movie “The Overture,” alongside Indian classical dance forms like Bharatanatyam. Thrilling Thai movie stunt shows, including those from the “King Naresuan” series and performances by the Jaika Stunt group, will add an element of excitement.
The event will further provide a platform for 12 companies showcasing travel packages, flights to Thailand, and Thai arts and crafts. A dedicated food zone will feature five Thai food and beverage vendors, offering visitors a delectable taste of Thailand’s culinary delights. Interactive DIY workshops, such as making herbal inhalers and fantasy candles, will provide a hands-on experience of Thai traditions.
On September 28, the “Amazing Thailand: Director’s Cut” will take place at the Hyatt Regency Chennai, focusing on Thailand’s burgeoning reputation as a film production hub. The event will bring together leading film industry professionals and celebrities from both Thailand and India for keynote speeches, panel discussions, and networking opportunities, fostering future collaborations and strengthening ties between the two film industries.
Both events are supported by the Royal Thai Consulate General, Chennai, the Thai Trade Center, the Commercial Section of the Royal Thai Consulate General, and the Board of Investment of Thailand (BOI) in Chennai.
India remains a top visitor market for Thailand, with Indian tourist arrivals anticipated to reach 1.7 million this year. This positive trend is driven by favorable factors such as Thailand’s visa exemption policy, which allows Indian visitors to stay for up to 60 days, with an additional 30-day extension option. These events are a testament to Thailand’s commitment to enhancing tourism and cultural exchange with India, further strengthening the already strong relationship between the two countries.
