Thane Police Bust Land Sale Fraud, APMC Director Held in Corruption Case, School Education Department Hit by Cheque Forgery

The Thane police in Maharashtra have registered a case against a couple and their son for allegedly duping a builder of nearly Rs 42 lakh in connection with the sale of land. The 27-year-old builder, who resides in the Bhiwandi area, filed a complaint alleging that the accused and he had entered into an agreement a few months earlier for the sale of more than 15 acres of land in the district. The builder claimed that he and his family paid Rs 42 lakh to the accused in connection with the deal, but the accused neither transferred the land nor refunded the money. The accused reportedly sold the land to other parties and threatened the builder with harm when he sought a refund. Based on the builder’s complaint, the Bhiwandi police have registered a case against the couple and their son. In a separate case, the Navi Mumbai police have arrested a director of the APMC at Vashi in connection with a corruption case related to a contract to build toilets at the facility. The accused, Sanjay Pansare, is alleged to have been involved in a scam that caused a loss of more than Rs 7 crore to the APMC. The Navi Mumbai crime branch has already arrested an official and two contractors in connection with the case. Meanwhile, police in Vasai have registered a case against four persons for fraudulently transferring Rs 47.6 lakh from the account of the Maharashtra School Education and Sports Department by forging cheques. The fraud came to light on March 4th, and an enquiry led to the registration of a case against Namita Bagh, Pramod Singh, Tap Kumar and Jeetan Khatun. The forged cheques, bearing forged signatures, were cleared at banks in Kolkata and Chennai. The concerned bank has compensated the government department for the loss caused as per RBI guidelines. Further investigation is ongoing.
