Thane Police Seize Rs 95.20 Lakh Worth of MDMA, Two Interstate Smugglers Arrested

In a significant victory against drug trafficking, the Thane Police Anti-Narcotics Squad has apprehended two interstate drug smugglers and seized a substantial quantity of MDMA, commonly known as party drugs. The operation, conducted under the direction of the Thane Police Commissioner, aimed to curb the distribution, sale, and consumption of illegal substances within the city.

Following specific instructions from senior police officials, an investigation was initiated under the supervision of Dr. Punjabrao Ugale, Additional Commissioner of Police, Thane; DCP of Crimes, Shivraj Patil; and Assistant Commissioner of Police (Prevention), Dhanaji Kshirsagar. The team, led by Senior Police Inspector Rahul Maske, executed the anti-drug operation effectively.

On September 1, 2024, acting on credible information received by the police, the squad meticulously planned and executed a trap. At approximately 11:05 AM, the team apprehended a suspect identified as Tabrez Abujafar Bakshi near Fortune Heights Apartments, Mumbra. The arrest yielded 476 grams of MDMA, valued at a staggering Rs 95.20 lakh.

During interrogation, Bakshi confessed that the drugs were supplied by his accomplice, Ejaz Sher Khan alias Pathan, a resident of Rajasthan. Following this lead, the squad swiftly apprehended Khan from a hotel in Virar. Both suspects are currently in police custody.

Further investigation revealed that both individuals had prior criminal records under the Mumbai Police Commissionerate for drug trafficking. The Anti-Narcotics Squad registered the case under the NDPS Act at the Mumbra Police Station, and the arrested individuals face charges of drug trafficking and related offenses.

This successful operation highlights the Thane Police’s unwavering commitment to combating the menace of drug trafficking and ensuring the safety and security of the city. The arrest of these interstate smugglers sends a strong message that the police will relentlessly pursue those involved in illegal drug activities.
