The Bahamas Launches Initiatives to Restore Mangroves and Promote Sustainable Tourism

The Bahamas Ministry of Tourism, Investments & Aviation is committed to the health of its mangroves and the promotion of sustainable tourism. After Hurricane Dorian devastated the country’s mangrove trees in 2019, the ministry launched two initiatives to restore these vital ecosystems.

The ‘For the Love of Mangroves’ campaign engages volunteers, public service staff, visitors, and industry partners to plant and care for mangrove trees. The ministry emphasizes the importance of mangroves as guardians of coastlines, mitigating erosion and providing sanctuary for marine organisms.

Additionally, The Bahamas has pledged to uphold the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals, which guide the country’s efforts to balance economic prosperity with environmental protection. The country’s record-breaking tourism arrivals of nearly 10 million visitors last year highlight the success of its sustainable tourism approach.

The Bahamas, located just 50 miles off the coast of Florida, is known for its stunning beaches, warm hospitality, and rich cultural heritage. The country offers world-class fishing, diving, boating, and numerous opportunities for exploration, making it an attractive destination for families, couples, and adventurers alike.
