The Sandman Universe Gets Bigger with ‘Dead Boy Detectives’ TV Series

The Sandman universe is expanding with a new side series on Netflix called ‘Dead Boy Detectives.’ The series, which is based on the comic book series of the same name by Neil Gaiman, will follow the ghost teens Edwin Paine and Charles Rowland as they solve supernatural mysteries.

Edwin and Charles were first introduced in the ‘Season of the Mists’ storyline in The Sandman. They have since been reimagined by various authors, but their core story remains the same. They are two boys who were bullied to death at their British boarding school 76 years apart. In death, they meet and decide to start a new life together as amateur, undead private eyes.

The upcoming Netflix series will continue taking Edwin and Charles’ story in offbeat new directions while paying homage to the comics that started their story. The series will feature at least one character fans of The Sandman already know well, Death. Death appears briefly in one shot of the trailer, smiling at Charles and Edwin inside what seems to be their detective agency.

In addition to Death, the series will also feature other characters from the ‘Dead Boy Detectives’ mythology, including Tragic Mick, Cat King, and Esther. The series will also introduce new characters, such as Crystal Palace, a medium with memory problems, and her demon ex-boyfriend.

The ‘Dead Boy Detectives’ series is set to premiere on Netflix on April 25. New and old Sandman fans alike will meet the Dead Boy Detectives and their friends when the series premieres.
