ThinkLite Air, a pioneer in indoor air quality (IAQ) solutions, has made a significant stride in enhancing patient safety at a Texas children’s hospital. The company has partnered with Medxcel, a subsidiary of Ascension and Prime Healthcare, to implement cutting-edge IAQ technology designed to protect vulnerable populations. This collaboration underscores ThinkLite Air’s dedication to improving healthcare outcomes.
Medxcel has been leveraging ThinkLite Air’s expertise for almost four years, utilizing their solutions to track and reduce healthcare-associated infections (HAIs) in healthcare facilities. In Summer 2024, Medxcel took a crucial step by installing ThinkLite Air Purilux units in every patient room and common area within the Oncology wing of the Texas children’s hospital. To ensure continuous monitoring and optimization of IAQ levels, ThinkLite Air Flair monitors were strategically positioned throughout the wing.
The results of this initiative have been remarkable. Ultrafine pollution (PC0.1), which encompasses the critical 0.1-0.3 micron range where most airborne pathogens reside, experienced a significant decrease of 73%. Coarse pollution (PM2.5), encompassing allergens, dust, spores, and other pollutants, witnessed an even more substantial reduction of 96%. Additionally, total volatile organic compounds (TVOCs) showed a notable drop of 16%.
The Flair monitors played a vital role in verifying the effectiveness of the Purilux units and enabled real-time alerts for administrators whenever IAQ metrics exceeded pre-set thresholds. Furthermore, the data collected by the Flair monitors revealed that the spaces within the Oncology wing now operate at an ISO 3-4 “clean room” level, highlighting opportunities for significant energy savings through optimized HVAC operations.
