Thomas Müller Sets Bayern Munich’s Bundesliga Appearance Record

Thomas Müller, a veteran of German football, has etched his name into Bayern Munich’s history books by setting a new record for Bundesliga appearances. The 34-year-old midfielder made his 474th league appearance for the club on Sunday, coming on as a substitute in the second half of their 3-2 win over Wolfsburg. His impact was immediate as he was involved in the build-up to Bayern’s equalizer, an own goal, and later contributed to Serge Gnabry’s winning goal in the latter stages of the game.

This accomplishment surpasses the previous club record of 473 appearances, previously shared by legendary goalkeeper Sepp Maier. Müller, who retired from international football after the European Championship, has been a loyal servant to Bayern since joining their youth academy in 2000 at the age of 10. His Bundesliga debut came under manager Jürgen Klinsmann in 2008, where he replaced Miroslav Klose in a 2-2 draw against Hamburger SV.

Beyond his appearance record, Müller also holds the title for the most Bundesliga championships with an impressive 12 titles to his name. While Eintracht Frankfurt defender Karl-Heinz “Charly” Körbel remains the all-time Bundesliga appearance holder with 602 appearances between 1972 and 1991, Müller’s achievement is a testament to his enduring legacy at Bayern Munich. His dedication and consistent performance throughout his career have solidified his place as one of the club’s greatest players.
